U.S. soldiers recount fierce Afghanistan battle
The assault began at dawn, as bullets and rockets peppered the remote outpost in eastern Afghanistan. The battle lasted 12 hours, claiming the lives of eight U.S. troops and more than 100 militants. Four servicemen have given their accounts of the attack that began October 3. "We were taking fire pretty much the entire day," said helicopter gunner Chad Bardwell. "I knew that this was something bigger than normal," said 1st Lt. Cason Shrode.
